Help Us Plan the 2013 Wyoming Short Film Contest

If you participated in our 2012 Short Film Contest, chances are you ran into some technical difficulties. With thousands of users from across the globe, our servers proved unequal to the task, and so voters and filmmakers both had to deal with high lag times. Obviously we're using a different system this year. The question is, which one?

As we begin to research new solutions for the 2013 Short Film Contest, we're looking for your input. Should we keep the popular vote component? Should we just go with judges or jurors? Which platform should we use -- Vimeo, Strutta, etc.? We want to make this the best contest it can be, and we want your help. If you have any ideas or opinions, drop us a line at info@filmwyoming.com.

I would like to see this contest move towards Vimeo simply because the video's we can post there are much higher in resolution. I would also like to see the public voting go away and move to judges from the start. This year I felt the public voting portion was not about films being better than other's but rather who knows more people. Either way I am excited for the upcoming contest.

Thanks for the feedback, Sam. Vimeo is a strong contender -- high quality video and most of our entrants are already familiar with the tech.

As for the voting, I'll agree. It can turn into something of a popularity contest. However, we put it in to help increase the virality (if that's a word) of the contest. How would you feel if a juror picked the top 10 films, and an 11th film with the most votes got in as well? From there the judging panel would work the same.

I think that is a great idea. I completely get the idea of votes will create buzz. I know I was telling everyone and I think the competition will have more entries this year because of the extensive campaigning that took place last year. More people were exposed to it. I like the hybrid idea.
